How can a desk lamp express the term “lightweight” in a poetic form while still being functional?
With this concept the different meanings of lightweight were explored. The final product displays this in a contrasting combination of rigid, structural aluminium elements on a solid base and an organically flowing, laminar wooden element that seems to be weightlessly balancing on that stable base.

At first, the term lightweight and its meaning in differnent context was explored and visually displayed by creating a fitting moodboard.
*I do not own any of the used images, my task was to compile images found on the web.
12V LED array with power cable
Design a fully functioning desk lamp that embodies "lightweight" using the given components.
The idea was to combine a rigid, stable and lightweight base with organically floating, weightless arm.
A functional prototype was built out of of aluminium rods, laminated wood sheets, MDF and PU foam.
The height of the lamp can easily be adjusted. Through slight friction in the joint and a well-balanced arm, the lamp always stays at the last position without swinging back.
